World Music, as a genre, doesn’t really seem to accurately describe what is actually happening now in the world’s music.
When the “high-tech/internet paradigm shift” demanded that the world change the way that it does business, the Music Industry heavy-weights kinda freaked out, and some of them still haven’t recovered yet.
But the little guys around the world suddenly found themselves empowered to share their music without any real help from the heavy-weights. And now, they’re everywhere, doing amazing things on a level that we have come to accept as expected from a world of people exploding into uncharted musical territory!
Your next-door neighbor could be on the Australian Top-10 list for “free Drum Beats”, or that kid spinning smoothies for you might have a fan club in Helsinki.
Out-of-the-box approaches to making money in the Music Industry are, apparently, becoming the new norm.
